Production Diary: Lesson Five in the Production of My Music Magazine Cover....

This is my final magazine cover complete with some minor improvements. I decided to improve my magazine slightly as I felt the cover looked too colourful so I took out the Now! in the sell line about the Snow Rave along with the shape behind as I felt to leave this a space between this and the sell line underneath. I also changed the sell line History of Dubstep to Dubstep History to make it short and simple. I also realigned the Mini Mac competition sell line so they are straight. I also moved the sell lines away from the borders. I also changed the colour scheme to one colour scheme so the magazine can be easily familiarised.

Production Diary: Lesson Four in the Production of My Music Magazine Cover...

This lesson I started by varying between colour schemes for some sell-lines and I added shapes to them as well. I also added one last sell-line to the cover. I didn't vary between typefaces as I felt the same typefaces should flow within the cover and it should be able to be familiarised easily with the cover. I left a space out under the Mini Mac Competition sell line as if I added another sell line it would look to compressed so I decided to leave this out.

Next lesson, I will start working on my contents page.

Production Diary: Lesson Three in the Production of My Music Magazine Cover...

This lesson I started by placing a thin border around the magazine cover to make it look more professional but it seems to look complicated to see. I also started adding text to my magazine by using sell lines and this is a convention of a magazine. I also moved the price, QR code and barcode to the right hand corner of the magazine as I felt that after doing this, the space to place sell lines expanded. I need to change the colour scheme in the other sell lines as they all have the same colour and doesn't make the magazine more appealing and I had trouble attempting to think of a different colour scheme for these sell lines but I would like to avoid using universal colours such as black and white and I also do not want to use the same font type for the text so differentiating between fonts would help make my magazine look more appealing. On the main sell line which is in a brown colour, I added effects on it such as a shadow, emboss and bevel, this makes the magazine look like existing magazines and helps the appeal.
Next lesson, I will add more sell lines and text to the cover and vary between typefaces and colour schemes and then I shall start working on my contents page after this.

Production Diary: Lesson Two in the Production of My Music Magazine Cover...

I started adding text to my music magazine cover and I started with the slogan of the magazine which is called 'The Underground King of Dubstep'. I used this slogan because as I said in my choice of genre section, Dubstep is not a topic that people always talk about and its mostly gossip in celebrity magazines and so on so this magazine is attempting to reignite the sensation of Dubstep. The slogan also means that Dubstep is the king and it will hold onto its crown even when its dead literally making the genre an Underground King or the magazine the Underground king. I used a red colour scheme on the masthead to complement the gradient background but also complement the red on the model's jacket where it says 'Summit Series'.  I also placed a barcode and a QR code which is a way of interactivity so people with iPhones and Android phones can scan this code and go on the website and view the more in-depth of the magazine. I also added a price of £1.99 as this is the average price for a magazine so this price will suit the audience's budget. I added a Issue no. and the date of this issue using the same colour scheme as the slogan in a blue colour scheme. I limited the amount of colours I use in the magazine as it should only have about 3 or 4 colour schemes on it.

Production Diary: Lesson One in the Production of My Music Magazine Cover....

This is my new and improved magazine cover. I done a photoshoot for my magazine cover image and I felt that this appealed more than the others because it doesn't show images of DJ decks or anything. It matched the genre of Dubstep as the facial expressions show signs of attitude and the Masthead also matches the genre as I mentioned in my masthead research. I used 'Defused' because it relates to the mood when everyone in a club is anxiously waiting for the bass drop and when it drops, everyone goes crazy hence their adrenaline defuses.
I added a gradient background in black and white and I managed to get the masthead behind the image rather than in front as it is a step of differentiation.

My Music Magazine Cover...

This is my music magazine and this is what I've done over the holidays, it is not yet complete and I'm aware that many of the music magazine conventions are missing and this will be improved.
I have decided to not go further with this magazine design as I feel it doesn't have much detail to it and it seems very unappealing, it also doesn't seem to make sense at all as the background doesn't fit in with the genre of the magazine or the concept of it. I decided to start afresh with my magazine and I have improved it and I will show a preview of this next lesson.
